SECRECIES: PERFECT BITE LP / FASHION WEEK SINGLE
SHORTS PART 4
Publishing : ASCAP; Courtesy of Idol Records

Step into the musical realm of Oak-Cliff’s multifaceted Shawn Magill, songwriter, producer, musician, and band leader of SECRECIES. Magill is set to captivate audiences with a highly anticipated SECRECIES album release, Perfect Bite, unveiling songs born in the midst of the pandemic and new band members in an ever-rotating cast of talent. The new album is sequel to SECRECIES’ self-titled debut in 2019, which earned them the coveted Best New Artist accolade at the Dallas Observer Music Awards, courtesy of Idol Records.

FASHION WEEK depicts a sense of displacement and longing for a different life, while questioning the pursuit of validation and the emptiness that can result from chasing after fleeting desires. The song contemplates the allure of conforming to societal expectations and the facade of perfection we often present to the world, exploring the dichotomy between our external image that is projected and our internal struggle with self-worth and authenticity.

With dreamy synth textures and a hypnotic shoegaze guitar wall of sound, the song captures conflicting emotions of yearning for connection and feeling detached from our true self. “You strut your stuff you please the masses, Is it ever enough your turns and passes?” The lyrics burst with energy, reflecting inner turmoil and desire for authenticity amidst a world of superficiality, inviting listeners to reflect on their own journey of self-discovery and acceptance.

LYRICS
Slipping into an existence
That doesn’t belong to me but could be mine
Heart rising inside out
As I walk new streets I thought I’d never find

You strut your stuff you please the masses
Is it ever enough your turns and passes?

It’s an endorphin rush, It’s a m-phine crush
Why you trying? Why you buying?
I’m an amorphous blob, I’m a careless slob
Why you hiding? Why you crying?
Why you hiding? Why you crying?

Stepping into your existence
A feeling I don’t believe a thought I can’t deny
The candle burns low and soft
Low light crisp sheets, reflect in your eyes

You strut your stuff you please the masses
Is it ever enough your turns and passes?

It’s an endorphin rush, It’s a m-phine crush
Why you trying? Why you buying?
I’m an amorphous blob, I’m a careless slob
Why you hiding? Why you crying?

It’s an endorphin rush, It’s a m-phine crush
Who you loving? Who you kidding?
I’m an amorphous blob, I’m a careless slob
Who you loving? Who you kidding?
Who you loving? Who you kidding?
