Faith No More Officially Break Up?

In a newsletter sent to fans, Faith No More’s co-founder and keyboardist Roddy Bottum let it slip that the band is on a “semi permanent hiatus.”

This update comes after Faith No More canceled shows in the second half of 2021 as a result of their lead singer Mike Patton’s ongoing battle with his mental health. This eventually led to an announcement that they would be canceling their entire 2022 tour to give Patton an opportunity to focus on getting mentally healthy.

“I’m Roddy. I’ve made a life for myself making music. With Faith No More and then Imperial Teen,” Bottum wrote in his new Substack newsletter. “FNM is kind of on semi permanent hiatus and Imperial Teen is making a record slowly but definitely.”

Updates on Faith No More have been few and far between since the cancellations. In late 2022, Patton revealed in an interview that he had not spoken to any of his fellow Faith No More bandmates since they decided to call off the tour.

Despite not working with Faith No More at the moment, both Patton and Bottum have been keeping busy. Patton has been spending his time with his other bands Mr. Bungle and Tomahawk. While Bottum has used this time to write a book.

“I’m here in anticipation of a book I’ve written, it’s a memoir called ‘The Royal We.’ It’s my first foray into writing and it’s exciting and scary and a whole new world for me..” Bottum wrote before revealing that this memoir is “an ode to San Francisco, bicycle messengering, s*x work, h*roin, dreadlocks, the birth of politics in punk rock, wheatgrass, witches, crystal m*th, coming out, self love and the burning down and obliteration of a great American city… It’s not a tell all but it tells a lot. I’m leaning into the poetic and the literary. There are people you know in it, overd*ses, tragedies and victories and failures.”
