MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Skin Yard’s “California” Video

Almost eight months after Pearl Jam released Dark Matter, the best mainstream rock record in recent memory, the band’s proto-grunge roots will have their moment with the decidedly uncommercial Skin Yard Select (C/Z). Available December 2, the limited-edition boxed set scatters 14 Skin Yard tracks over seven colored seven-inch vinyl discs. The Seattle band was one of a half-dozen seminal acts on 1986’s Deep Six compilation, which also featured Green River, Melvins, Malfunkshun, Soundgarden and the U-Men.

The boxed set was curated by Skin Yard co-founders Daniel House and (now noted producer) Jack Endino from the group’s four studio albums spanning six years. Some heavyweight drummers appear on the recordings, including Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam), Jason Finn (Presidents Of The United States Of America, Love Battery) and Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season). With a pressing limited to 1,000, Skin Yard Select can only be ordered directly from the label.

The video for the unreleased Skin Yard track, “California,” was directed by Victor Krummenacher, celebrated bassist for Camper Van Beethoven, Monks Of Doom and Third Mind. Words On Bone, an oral history on Skin Yard, is also in the works.

We’re proud to premiere Skin Yard’s “California” video.
