Steve-O said that Tenacious D’s song disrespected Ronnie James Dio.

Steve-O talks about Ronnie James Dio

“I’m very upset with Jack Black’s song about Dio,” Steve-O referenced the song ‘Dio’ from Tenacious D’s 2001 album. In the song, they say Dio is ‘too old to rock” and should pass the torch to Jack Black and his bandmate Kyle Gass.

Steve-O also added, “I just felt very offended. I mean it’s tongue-in-cheek for sure, it’s a comedy, but don’t disparage my Ronnie James Dio.”

Dio made an appearance on Tenacious D’s song ‘Kickapoo’ and in their movie ‘The Pick of Destiny.’

In a 2020 interview with Billboard, Black had also remembered coming across Dio. He outlined how Tenacious D ‘kind of stole’ a melody from Dio. He explained, “We wrote a song for Dio to sing in our movie Tenacious D in ‘The Pick of Destiny.’ It was called ‘Kickapoo,’ and Dio’s section had kind of a [1980 Black Sabbath song] ‘Neon Knights’ melody.”

“I was nervous he’d be like, ‘You guys kind of stole that melody from me,’ but he was so cool and rad about the whole thing. No big rock star attitude. He brought his own microphone to the studio when it came time for him to lay down his vocal track. Our producer, John King, told him it wouldn’t be necessary since we had a state-of-the-art mic already set up,” the singer continued.

Black went on to reveal, “He did one take with John King’s mic, and Dio basically destroyed it with pure vocal sound, shredded the internal membrane or some sh*t. John was like, ‘Holy sh*t, that mic is toasted now.’”

“Dio said, ‘Yeah, that always happens. That’s why I always bring my own.’ And so we had to set up his industrial-strength mic to record him, and that’s the take that was used in the movie,” Jack also shared.

In the latest episode of Steve-O’s Wild Ride! Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine also joined Steve-O for a conversation. He recalled how Metallica’s manager once called him ‘p*ssy’ when he almost missed a Big Four show at Yankee Stadium due to neck issues.
