Earlier this year, it was announced that in July Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne would be taking the stage for the final time, performing in their last ever show in their hometown of Birmingham, UK.
The all-star event is already set to feature massive bands and artists including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), Slash, Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), and many more.
Now, Rush legends Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee have revealed that they were also supposed to perform at the show, but were unable to make it happen.
“That whole thing that they’re doing this summer, we were asked to be a part of it, and we had agreed to do it, but other things came up, and sadly we had to back out of it, ’cause it would have been a lot of fun. We enjoy playing with other people, and it gets Geddy and me together to do stuff, and all of that,” Lifeson told Loudwire Nights in a new interview.
In the same conversation, Lifeson admitted that he was never really a huge fan of Black Sabbath, but that he does think guitarist Tony Iommi is very talented.
“I don’t know if I was really a fan of Black Sabbath, but I did get a couple of records back then, and I enjoyed listening to them. I respected Tony’s guitar playing,” he said.
