AC/DC recently announced thirteen shows to take place across North America next April and May, marking the band’s first tour in the U.S. and Canada since 2016. While this was welcome news to many, some fans are questioning whether or not singer Brian Johnson is up to the task.
“I mean, isn’t Brian mostly deaf at this point? I’m surprised he’s still touring at all,” one person wrote on Reddit.
Another fan also targeted Johnson, saying, “The lead singer is near deaf. He’s been told he cannot play ‘stadium size venues’ because the amplification necessary would certainly finish off his hearing. So I’m extremely curious what venues they will play.”
One Reddit user recalled attending AC/DC’s recent show in London, commenting that Johnson’s vocals were a major disappointment: “Honestly, I saw them at Wembley last year and was very unimpressed. Brian’s voice was buried so far in the mix that he was pretty much unintelligible for 90% of the show.”
But for some, getting the chance to see this legendary band while they’re still around may be worth it, even if Johnson’s voice is not what it used to be.
“Man I’m mixed,” another fan wrote. “On one hand, I’m well aware that they’re past their prime and this is going to be an expensive ticket. On the other, AC/DC is literally the last band on my bucket list.”
