According to 98 KUPD, on August 24th, Linkin Park started a countdown clock that began at 100 hours. When it hit zero on Wednesday, the clock started counting back up instead and this disappointed fans. Linkin Park die hards noticed a glitch on the screen around the 9:05 mark, leading them to believe something important would happen on September 5th, which now seems more or less confirmed.

It’s still unclear what Linkin Park has planned, but there are rumors of a possible reunion, the first since their 2017 Chester Bennington tribute concert. In April, there were reports that members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Dave “Phoenix” Farrell were thinking about a 2025 tour, possibly with a female singer replacing Bennington.

One name who has been eliminated as a potential new singer is Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley. On August 27, Whibley shared a statement saying he won’t join Linkin Park as their new frontman. Whibley had previously teased a Wednesday announcement at the same time as Linkin Park’s countdown.

He clarified, “I feel the need to dispel some current rumours,” WHIBLEY wrote. “It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.

Whibley added that he has his own “tour and book” announcement, which he’ll share later in the week, before Sum 41’s U.S. tour. He ended by saying he’s excited to see what both of these bands do in the future.

“I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our U.S. tour. “I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
