MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of ALO’s “Hey Hello (Tale Of The Twist & Shout)”

When drummer Ezra Lipp calls ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) a “California rock ’n’ roll institution,” he’s not boasting. He’s simply stating a fact. The band has been evolving organically in all the right directions going on three decades, cultivating an enthusiastic, open-minded fanbase one show at a time at venues and festivals all over the world.

Native Californians Zach Gill (keys), Steve Adams (bass) and Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (guitar) have been playing together in some shape or form since junior high school, keeping it going through college at UC Santa Barbara. A relatively new addition, Lipp has been with the band for about seven years. All four members sing, and each has moonlighted with various luminaries and contemporaries, including Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Nicki Bluhm and Jack Johnson.

“Hey Hello (Tale Of The Twist & Shout)” is the latest single from ALO’s new LP, Frames, out tomorrow via Jack Johnson’s Brushfire label. A rousing call to communion, it confirms the band’s enduring connection with its audience.

“It’s a greeting,” says Gill. “It’s a late-night campfire conversation under the stars. It’s an old-timey hoedown in a space disco. It was inspired by our 2024 summer tour of Colorado mountain towns and all the colorful characters who came out to dance and sing with us under the stars.”

We’re proud to premiere ALO’s “Hey Hello (Tale Of The Twist & Shout).”
