Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 39-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
I’m not sure what David’s illustration is asking me to believe. It feels like it’s the 1950s when a TV and radio purchase was certainly not $1,000,000. Seems a bit high. Is it more like Unwound announcing tour dates with a short video marked 2019-2091? I don’t understand that either. Maybe it’s like the TV news clip showing a high-speed car chase that supposedly rips right by a TV viewer’s front window. Not sure I believe this happened thusly. From dubious origins through the not-so-cleverly orchestrated, the information age is leaving too many citizens lost at the bakery. Or piecing things together through TV-store windows.
