The late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland didn’t pass away due to an overdose, according to his son, Noah Weiland. He took to his Instagram account and posted pictures. In the caption, he made it clear that his father didn’t die of an overdose.

After his passing in December 2015, it was ruled that Weiland died of an accidental mixed drug toxicity involving cocaine, alcohol, and the drug MDA. The report also noted asthma, cardiovascular disease, and Weiland’s years of drug use as significant conditions.

Scott Weiland‘s widow, Jamie Weiland, previously stated that the late Stone Temple Pilots frontman did not die from an overdose.
Jamie told Appetite for Distortion podcast, Jamie said, “When [Scott] died, everybody was kind of like, ‘That’s tragic, but, of course, he overdosed,’ which he didn’t f****** overdose … he didn’t.”
“Because he had drugs in his system, the coroner had to rule it an overdose,” Jamie continued. “But the truth is Scott died because the main artery in his left ventricle was 95% blocked. That came from 10 years of heroine use. That came from an entire adult life of chain-smoking. His heart stopped.”
“Did [Scott] have trace amounts of drugs in his system? He did,” Jamie said. “Did I know he was using? No, I didn’t, because he lied to me.”
“That was not an overdose,” she continued. “He was not using heroin, he did not overdose on drugs. His heart stopped because his heart had been through so much abuse. Because of prior drug use in his life, and smoking, and heavy drinking.”
Noah Weiland, has also opened up about his relationship with his father and the misconceptions about his upbringing. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Noah said, “I’m not a trust fund baby or anything like that,” and that he barely saw his dad after he divorced his mother.
“I always get annoyed when people say that type of stuff,” he shares. “My dad was millions in debt when he died. My mom has always worked a normal job. And truthfully, even if my dad’s estate ever does get out of debt, I don’t even want that money. I want to make a career out of myself as much as possible.”
Similar to his father, Noah has also found a music career. The dissolution of a major musical project was blamed on his drug use.
Noah had been in a band with London Hudson and Tye Trujillo, the sons of Guns N’ Roses‘ Slash and Metallica‘s Robert Trujillo, respectively, called Suspect208. But, he was soon let go from the group, which his former bandmates said was due to his drug addiction.
Noah maintained that he “wasn’t necessarily an addict at that time,” he was using opioids, which then became an addiction after his firing from Suspect208.
Weiland stated that he’s clean from opioids, and is making music under his name, which he describes as “gritty alternative pop” as opposed to the hard rock and grunge his father was known for. He added that his experience with drug use allowed him to “finally understand [Scott’s] situation.”
“It made me realize it wasn’t his fault,” Noah said. “He was just in too deep. He had too many demons. They caught up to him. It actually made me forgive him.”
