In 2014, Jenny Slate and co-creator Dean Fleischer-Camp announced their viral short-film series starring Marcel, a talking shell with shoes on, would make its big-picture debut. Almost a decade later, we finally have a trailer.
Marcel The Shell (With Shoes On), an A24 film, is a mockumentary detailing Marcel’s search for his family. It leads to him garnering wild online attention, much like the original YouTube short series. The movie will hit theaters June 24.
The original three-part series posted to YouTube has garnered millions of views. The stop-motion shell character even landed a New York Times Best Seller for their book Marcel the Shell With Shoes On: Things About Me.
So far, we know that Slate and Fleischer-Camp will star in the movie. Alongside them joins Isabella Rossellini, Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann and cameos from Conan O’Brien and Brian Williams, as shown in the trailer.
