Kids of O’Keefe Music Foundation Nail Korn’s “Somebody Someone”

There are few things that warm this cynical heart during the morning: a sausage, egg, and cheese on a bagel, a nice fat paycheck, and video proof that future generations aren’t completely fucked — at least musically. So when I found this absolutely kick ass cover of Korn‘s “Somebody Someone” off of Issues by the kids at the O’Keefe Music Foundation, it instantly spiked my serotonin levels.

I mean, what’s not to like about this clip? It hits the mark musically, the kids look like they’re having a blast playing the song, and there’s a kid in aviators playing the triangle — you go, little dude! And then there’s that killer breakdown at the 2:53 mark that makes my inner nü-metal fan wish the local mall’s Hot Topic didn’t suck these days.

Anyway… For those not in the know, the O’Keefe Music Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit in Ohio that’s given kids a place to experience music creation in a professional-level environment. They offer music lessons, recording sessions, and film accompanying music videos for free, regardless of their family’s economic status.

And while that sounds like your run of the mill music school for kids, I’d like to point out the honestly insane amount of hard rock and metal they’ve covered over the years, from Down’s “Ghosts Along the Mississippi” to Slipknot‘s “Before I Forget,” there’s plenty there to enjoy. And if you ask us, anything that lets kids get their hands on some actual musical instruments and learn some skills is a worthwhile endeavor.

Look, this isn’t the first time we’ve covered this foundation and their professional-level music videos and it’s likely not going to be the last. If you think the foundation’s mission is worthwhile and have a few bucks to spare, why not help ’em out? You can make a donation to the O’Keefe Music Foundation online.
