Alright, I’m gonna use this space to provide a public service for everyone that’s got a special someone in their lives or are looking to make a connection with that certain someone — NEXT FRIDAY IS VALENTINE’S DAY. Don’t fuck up and forget. Maybe they’d like a copy of one of today’s new releases? Just sayin’…

Guides For The Misguided (Relapse Records)
If you like slow, downtuned guitars and you love your metal in the sludge variety, then listen up. Guides For The Misguided is the 10th full-length offering from the Los Angeles-based band. This one’s just full of heavy, visceral riffs that comes from more than three decades of experience.
Dream Theater
Parasomnia (Out Of Line Music/Sony Music)
Well, here it is. The moment fans of this iconic prog metal band have been waiting for — the triumphant return of Mike Portnoy to Dream Theater canonized in a full-length release. This slate of new tracks got a 4.5/5 from our reviewer C.C. DeLorean if you’d like to read what he had to say, but let’s be real. If you’re already a Dream Theater fan, you’ve probably already started your third or fourth listen ever since this went live on streaming services a few hours ago.
Jinjer
Duél (Napalm Records)
Celebrated Ukrainian progressive metal act Jinjer are back with their fifth full-length studio effort and their follow up to 2021’s Wallflowers. Packed with 11 new songs, the tone on this album is one of rage and sorrow, which makes complete sense given what’s going on in the band’s home country. It’s a deep and compelling listen.
Obscura
A Sonication (Nuclear Blast)
There’s a lot of controversy surrounding this album, but if you can stomach the allegations against it, A Sonication could still be a decent listen. I mean, it’s still Obscura doing the whole progressive/technical death metal thing, so if that’s your jam, you’re gonna really enjoy this.
Unreqvited
A Pathway To The Moon (Prophecy Productions)
With this being the depressive black metal/post-black metal brainchild of one Canadian dude, it’s impressive that this is the band’s seventh full-length release since 2016’s debut Disquiet. According to Max Heilman’s 4/5 review of the album, it’s well worth your time.
