Tool recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their 1992 EP Opiate with a brand new version of the title track dubbed “Opiate2” (and pronounced “Opiate Squared”). Visual artist Dominic Hailstone (Alien: Covenant, The Eel) worked with guitarist Adam Jones on the 10-plus minute film companion to the single, which is the band’s first new video in 15 years. You can check out a 3-minute clip of that above, and order a physical copy of Opiate2 here with the full film.

According to drummer Danny Carey in a recent interview, Tool has some leftover ideas from the Fear Incoulum sessions that they’re going to start working on.

“It was frustrating not having new material to play, but that time really flew by quickly. I guess that’s just the nature of life. It’s like when you have kids, and they’re grown up, and you go, ‘What happened?’ It took a long time, but we did a lot of touring and tried to grow in different ways and take a break from each other to keep things fresh. We also wanted to bring in outside influences, so we would have something new to say to each other musically. It all came together really well on this one. I’m sure it won’t take us this long for the next one. We even had some stuff left over from the last one that we’ll develop. We have head starts on three or four new songs.”

Carey also mentioned that the band is working on a live DVD comprised of shows mostly from Tool‘s Lateralus shows in 2002, and calls the release “a good mind blower for all the hardcore fans.”
