Metallica’s fourth annual “Helping Hands Concert & Auction” took place on December 13 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, and as always, it was a star-studded affair.
Professionally filmed footage of the event is now available, but beyond the electric performances, the real focus of the evening was the event’s impact on important charitable causes.
The concert, hosted by the ever-charismatic Jimmy Kimmel, was part of the band’s ongoing efforts to support the All Within My Hands Foundation. This year’s edition of marked a return to Los Angeles, where last year’s event raised a staggering $3 million, all of which went directly to the Foundation’s initiatives. These include workforce education, hunger relief, disaster recovery, and other vital community services. Once again, 100% of the ticket and auction proceeds were donated to these causes.
Alongside Metallica, the event featured performances from Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, and Kenny Aronoff. Adding another layer of depth, SistaStrings—an Americana duo recently named “best instrumentalists” by the Americana Music Association—brought their classically trained sound to the stage.
Metallica’s setlist blended acoustic and electric performances, with several rare and special moments. Highlights included the acoustic rendition of “If Darkness Had A Son,” which featured SistaStrings, and the debut performance of “Away From Home,” a cover of the Bachman-Turner Overdrive classic. Fans were also treated to the first live performances of “Low Man’s Lyric” and “Helpless” in years, making the night feel all the more special.
The electric portion of the set didn’t disappoint either, with the band delivering powerful renditions of tracks like “Orion,” “Fuel,” and “Master of Puppets,” with special appearances by Pearl Jam‘s Jeff Ament on bass and Avi Vinocur on vocals.
