Riot Games Taps Maria Egan to Lead Music and Events


Maria Egan is joining Riot Games as global head of music & events, where she will leverage her considerable music industry experience across gaming, TV series and film.

Egan starts this week in the new role, which sees her spearhead global music content across the California-based group’s expanding slate of properties, and manage all music strategy, relationships, and label partnerships. At Riot, Egan will develop and execute the strategy for its location-based experiences.

Most recently, she served as chief music officer at Splice, where she steered the business’s partnerships with artists, global music strategy, and served as chair of the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Council.

Prior to that, Egan was president and head of creative at independent publisher Pulse Music Group, were she led a team that accumulated more than 10 billion combined music streams, 100 million RIAA-certified units, 150 RIAA song certifications, 10 Billboard Hot 100 leaders and more, according to a statement.

Egan’s appointment is part of an expansion of the wider leadership team, which sees Kristin Moss named as global head of entertainment marketing; Emily Briggs as global head of entertainment finance and strategy; and Ken Basin as global head of business operations.

Egan “has an exceptional track record in the music industry,” Spenley continues, “and there is no one better to lead our music and events division.”

Based in Los Angeles, Riot Games is the developer of the popular team-based online League of Legends, which dropped in 2009, and Valorant, the first-person hero shooter that released in 2020.

Riot Games’ titles include the Netflix No. 1 animated series Arcane, which features Imagine Dragons “Enemy” as its theme, along with a string of games brands, including Teamfight Tactics and Riot Forge, plus “multiple work-in-progress” titles.

Founded by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill, and led by CEO Nicolo Laurent, Riot now boasts upwards of 20-plus offices, and 3,000-plus employees, or “Rioters.”
