Robert George Vines is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer based in Florida, with a variety of songs originally released in 2020, with “Are You Feelin’ Randy” along with one other that have since been re-released in 2023-24 in a new phase of his career by adding them to his own record label, Rip Vinz Records, Inc. A label with the works for recording artists in the Florida region, of which several artists have a homebase with as well. This is one of two songs sent my way by their distributor, and although I like both tracks, this one stands out the most as a theatrical sort of number anyone can appreciate. It also has just the right tempo to match the mood I was in the first time I put it on the headphones. The laid-back vocals tell the story, and whether or not you can make out what it’s all about, the chorus takes it over the top and you’re instantly hooked after being led by a good melody.
One thing I noticed about Robert George Vines straight off the bat, is his contagious enthusiasm which helps carry a song the distance with me, and couldn’t help but leave it on repeat for several plays after setting the headphones down and giving it a review. The song goes through a quick set up with some piano, before excelling into a huge chorus, and that’s where all the fun starts and you’re ready for more chorus passes. Robert George Vines sings his heart out on the chorus, leaving much mystery in the lyrics, but keeping sonically busy enough to stay interested between the beautifully rocking chorus lines
The production values of the song is where it gets even more interesting, with co-production credits going to Vines and Nick Diiorio, as they combined their skills in the studio for what is only part of an album (originally) here. It doesn’t have much more instrumentation to write home about, but the drums and backing vocals do the rest of the business well enough to say it evened out very well-crafted. As for the overall arrangement and my final thoughts go, this is an artist for me to watch for as 2025 comes with a lot of laid-back rhythmic sounds to look forward to, particularly soft and “yacht rock” as they’re now calling it. And this falls right into that smooth jazz zone I always turn up in the spring and summer, so it’s cool to get an earful of this before the heat comes back on.
It makes me want to seek more from the artist, but I’ve been informed to hold off and take the singles in as another album awaits, with a more updated batch of songs to look forward to, so this only serves as a taste of what’s to come from Robert George Vines and Rip Vines Records Inc., which makes space for the plugging, as I am also informed the label features artists such as David Pastorius, Andrea Del Principe, Shawn Tarver, and others. Keep an eye out for more in 2025, including the current single “Gimme Just A Lil Bit” which followed up “Are You Feeling Randy” in 2024.
