There’s A Pantera Song Featured In The New Film ‘Sonic

The music of Texan groove metal legends Pantera isn’t what you’d normally expect to hear in a movie based on the ‘Sonic The Hedgehog‘ property, but here we are. Spoiler alert: the band’s signature 1992 track “Walk” appears in the latest entry in the film adaptation of the video game series, the recently premiered ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2‘.

It’s featured as part of a ‘world domination playlist’ played by the film’s villainous ‘Dr. Robotnik‘ while piloting a giant robot. A bootleg clip of that sequence can be found below.

Jim Carrey reprises the role of Robotnik in the film and also recently spoke of his personal admiration for Pantera in an interview with Fox 5. He said of that:

“The first time I ever heard Pantera, I was driving down to San Diego to do a concert at a theater and to check in to a hotel. And me and my manager, Jim Miller at the time, we put Pantera on. And I had never heard anything like it. And it hit me on such a level of, like, extreme stimulation that I just started laughing uncontrollably for the entire track. Just like nervously laughing, like, ‘What is happening right now?’ And then we went to check in to the hotel, and the guys behind us in the line checking in to the hotel were Pantera. We turned around and we went, like, ‘Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?’ This is too weird, man.”

If you’re intrigued, the film also features a joke at the expense of nü-metal’s most notrious band.
