Track Premiere: Graveripper – “Cybernetic Nightmare”

Thrash metal has always been good about alerting us to the various perils of the world, whether it’s piranhas or nuclear war or zombies or fucking irradiated zombie piranhas. Thrash has had our back. So luckily we have Indiana old-school speedsters Graveripper giving us a futuristic look at the next shit we’ve gotta steer clear of on their new single, “Cybernetic Nightmare.” The duo (for this single) of  Corey Parks (guitar/bass/vocals) and Jacob Lett (drums) use speedy riffs circa 1983-84 Metallica/Slayer/Exodus and barked out vocals circa Toxic Holocaust/Midnight to spell out the perils of overly cybernetic body augmented cyberpsychos. Which does indeed sound nightmarish.

Recorded by Parks and Lett, and mixed by Niko Albanese, “Cybernetic Nightmare” was mastered by Seth Munson. It will be available November 15 as a clear yellow Flexi disc 7″ single or digitally via Wise Blood Records. Preorder yours here.

This is what Parks had to say about the new track:

“The narrative of ‘Cybernetic Nightmare’ is inspired by the world of Cyberpunk 2077. In the game, Cyberpsychosis is a dissociative disorder caused by an overload of cybernetic body augmentations. If you fall victim to Cyberpsychosis, you become what is known as a Cyberpsycho.

“Not necessarily everyone becomes one, those who do most likely have a predisposition. You have an inherent susceptibility. The corporations who make these augmentations couldn’t care less about those who are becoming dependent on their product, and take advantage of these people and shift the blame elsewhere. Sound familiar?

“The cyber psychos are distinct mini bosses throughout the game, each with a unique history that shines light on their descent into cyberpsychosis. They’re just a cool part of the game that really caught my attention.”
