With the average person owning multiple devices, charging can sometimes be a hassle. Thankfully, Adidas’s new headphones are self-charging.
Adidas has announced a new pair of wireless headphones that do not require charging, thanks to built-in self-charging technology. Unlike earbuds with short battery life, wireless headphones usually have excellent battery life that can sometimes last days on a single charge. For example, the new Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless has a battery life of up to 60 hours with active noise cancellation.
Adidas isn’t new to making headphones. It has announced a couple of earbuds in the past, and these new headphones are not its first either. As expected, its headphones are designed for working out, making them rivals to earbuds such as the Beats Powerbeats Pro.

The Adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones are “powered by light,” according to Adidas. Unlike most wireless headphones that need charging to use, these are self-charging, thanks to Exeger’s Powerfoyle technology built into the headband. Described as a “groundbreaking light cell material,” it converts all forms of natural and artificial light into battery life. So whether the user is cycling outdoors under the sun or running indoors in a well-lit gym, the headphones should continue charging.
There’s No Active Noise Cancellation
Adidas’ new headphones have 45mm dynamic drivers housed in a body that’s 51 percent plastic, 87 percent of which is recycled. They also have an IPX4 sweat and water-resistant rating, and the headband and ear covers can be removed to wash off the sweat. The headphones have an on-the-ear design which means they sit on the ears. However, those with small ears may be able to get it to completely cover their ears, thus providing some form of noise cancellation since there is no active noise cancellation.
There is a control knob that users can use to turn the headphones on or off, play/pause media, change tracks, and put them into pairing mode. In addition, people can use a programmable action button to call up the voice assistant on the connected phone. While the headphones should continuously charge under a light source, there is also a USB-C port for wired charging.
When fully charged, the headphones will provide up to 80 hours of use. Furthermore, the spec sheet says there is no fast charging, but a full charge via the USB-C port will take about two hours. The earbuds connect via Bluetooth 5.2 and are compatible with Android and iOS devices. They also have a companion app that’s available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The Adidas RPT-02 SOL is priced at $229 and are available to buy in Night Gray or Solar Yellow.
