HGTV ‘Good Bones’ Star Mina Starsiak Hawk Gets Candid After Being Hit With Bad News

HGTV star Mina Starsiak Hawk has had to close down her second Two Chicks District Co. store just seven months after it opened.

The Good Bones star opened up to the Indianapolis Star about the decision to shutter the business, which opened back in March in Noblesville, Indiana. Hawk said it just wasn’t financially viable to keep the store open.

“By the time it came to make a decision to stay, I just couldn’t… we were losing money,” Hawk told the outlet.

The original Two Chicks District Co. store operated in Indianapolis until 2023 when it closed down to make way for the Noblesville-based store. Customers could purchase home accessories, lamps, pillows, and more at the store, which officially closed its doors on September 29. The online store remains in operation.

“It was so amazing, the neighborhood and the people, and I hate that the business side just isn’t there to support it, but being in a very urban spot, unfortunately it has to be a profitable venture,” Hawk added.

Hawk shared the news of the closure on the Two Chicks’ social media accounts on Thursday, September 26, writing, “This weekend is our last in our Noblesville Pop-Up location! District Co will continue to operate online and I’m super excited about the cute holiday collection I have coming soon.”

On her own Instagram page, Hawk told her followers, “Not gonna lie. The last few months have taken a toll on me mentally and I let that affect me physically and fell off the wagon of my regular workouts. Which makes everything worse, for me at least.”

“It took me a minute to get it back together, but it’s often the hard thing that you don’t want to do that are the exact things you need to do….” she continued.

She concluded, “Shoutout to my amazing family that is my motivation for literally everything I do and my hubby who is not only my trainer (holler @hawk_fit_ ) but also the one who is here for the roller coaster ride, sometimes unsure (as am I) but always with 100% confidence in me that I will figure it out. Which is more than I can say for myself many days.”

Hawk’s fans jumped into the comments section to share their support, with one user writing, “Inspiring & REAL to say the least!!”

“Just remember you are a bad ass and are an amazing mom,” said another.

“You are an inspiration! I’m sorry that you’ve had a tough time lately. I’ve watched and listened to all you do and rooting for you and your precious family,” another added.

Hawk has been open over the past few years regarding her feuds with her family, including falling outs with her mother, Karen E. Laine, and her brother, Ted Starsiak. The family previously starred together in eight seasons of Good Bones, the renovation series that aired on HGTV.

Speaking on her Mina AF podcast following the series finale last fall, Mina said she “wasn’t in a great place” with her mom and brother, explaining how things were often tense behind the scenes. Back in October, she noted of her relationship with her mom, “We do not talk. We haven’t in a long time.”

Despite the family rifts, Hawk and Laine are part of the new Good Bones limited series, though they are kept separate. While Hawk and her husband work on their lake house, Laine “sets off on a new adventure in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she’ll risk her retirement nest egg,” turning a 120-year-old bungalow into a dreamy beach house.
