German thrash metal vets Sodom will be marking their 40th anniversary with a celebratory album titled “40 Years At War – The Greatest Hell Of Sodom“. Steamhammer/SPV have set an October 28th release date for that effort, which features newly re-recorded tracks from throughout the band’s catalog.
The group’s sole remaining founding member, vocalist/bassist Tom Angelripper, commented of that, “Our goal was to re-record one song from each of our previous albums. Not necessarily the most obvious ones, we wanted to go for rarities or tracks we`ve never or very rarely played live.”
He continued:
“We cover the songs unaltered, that’s to say: in exactly the same key and with the original lyrics. We’re better musicians now than we were back then, of course, so the new versions sound tighter and more up-to-date but the arrangements of the songs were deliberately kept unchanged.”
To that end the group’s current lineup settled upon 17 songs from the band’s extensive catalog.
