A new fan poster recasts Emily Blunt as Lara Croft in the sequel to Tomb Raider. It was recently reported that MGM lost the film rights to the popular video game franchise, after studio did not officially greenlight a sequel. They had until May to do so, but their window of opportunity reportedly passed. The sequel was initially in development stages at MGM, with Misha Green attached to direct and Alicia Vikander set to reprise her role as Lara Croft from the 2018 film.
However, Vikander has exited the project, and will no longer star in any Tomb Raider-related film as Croft. The franchise will now be rebooted for the third time, counting the first adaptation of the game in 2001 with Angelina Jolie playing Croft. Jolie also reprised her role in the sequel, The Cradle of Life, in 2003. No directors, or stars, are currently attached to the new reboot, as GK Films is now looking for a studio to distribute the brand-new adaptation of Tomb Raider.

But that isn’t stopping fans from imagining who could take over the Lara Croft mantle through fan posters. And one fan poster imagines Emily Blunt playing Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. Digital artist diamonddead went to Instagram to share his fan poster, recasting Blunt in the role of Lara Croft, after reading articles online which suggested she could be a good fit for the role. Check out the poster below:
Throughout her career, Blunt has been fan-casted in many roles. For example, she has been asked if she would be interested in playing Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in the upcoming Fantastic Four film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That could now be possible, with husband John Krasinski having played Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Lara Croft is another possibility, and diamonddead’s fan poster does turn an inspired moment of fan casting into near-reality.
Blunt has already proven herself to be a capable action/adventure star, having starred in Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario, and A Quiet Place I and II. She recently starred in Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson, an adventure film with elaborate action sequences à la Tomb Raider, which is a good example of how good she can be as Lara Croft should she potentially star in the latest Tomb Raider reboot. Still, whether she stars in the film or not, the fan poster perfectly showcases how great Blunt would be as the latest on-screen iteration of Lara Croft.
