MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Weather Happy’s “Day Storm”

The angst that informs “Day Storm” draws from a period of intense struggle for Weather Happy’s Holly Carter.

“It’s written about my past battles with OCD and how at one point, my house felt like a friend protecting me from the contaminated dangers outside, offering routine and predictability,” says Carter. “But those feelings shifted to feeling suffocated.”

Carter first surfaced on the London scene as one-third of the jagged indie-garage trio Berries. Following two well-received albums and supporting slots with the Subways, Frank Turner and others, the three amicably parted ways in 2025. Carter linked up with longtime pal Harry Carter (no relation), a session drummer and band member across numerous genres. The pair’s willingness to mess with song structure and time signatures gives Weather Happy’s muscular alt-flavored formula a math-rock edge.

For their upcoming debut EP, Moth (Easy Does It), the Carters worked with Idlewild guitarist Rod Jones, who pushed them toward what Holly describes as some of the “rawest and most angular music” either musician has ever churned out. And despite its shut-in theme, the EP’s latest single is no shrinking violet.

“We wanted to go with some heavier distortion and driving drums for ‘Day Storm’ to create an intensity,” says Holly.

We’re proud to premiere Weather Happy’s “Day Storm.” Moth is out October 30.
