While many Americans watched Tuesday’s midterm election results with either great anticipation or resigned dread, Stevie Nicks was not sweating the final tally at all because she already knew how the night would end.
The Fleetwood Mac singer and solo star revealed in a post on X that she wrote a poem on Oct. 18 as a kind of wish into the universe. “It was sort of like a little prayer for the coming elections,” she said. “I really believed that what has happened was going to happen; it just had to. Good almost wins … I didn’t have time to get it out before the election — so here it is. That’s the dream …”
The dream came true, as Nicks — who endorsed former Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election —and the rest of the nation watched the electorate soundly rebuke the second Trump term agenda by giving Democrats a historic blue wave victory that has swept them into the majority in both the House and Senate, in addition to flipping five governorships and racking up massive wins on the local, state and national level.
In the poem titled “Morning Symphony,” Nicks muses on the beauty of early mornings and her dog Lily, her sadness about what is going on in the country, ending with a final, flickering hope that the light will win out over darkness.
Check it out below:
I feel so much hope
in the early morning symphony
That I listen to —
When I finally —
Decide to sleep —
Everything around me is so beautiful —
My Lily, my lamps —
My drapes —
And I look forward —
With anticipation —
To the coming of the day —
And then I remember —
What I will see —
Is that we are at war —
People are starving —
Right here —in the United States
We are surrounded —in violence
In chaos —in hate —
I feel the tears —run down
My cheeks —
It’s been happening for weeks —
I get up and walk to the window and I don’t sleep —
No, I don’t sleep
But I still believe
It is still dark
But the light creates
A circle of angels
Around this place
Through those tall trees
And I go to sleep
That’s the dream —
Back in August, Nicks, 78, made a surprise appearance at Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival where they performed the Fleetwood Mac classic “Landslide.” The two women also contributed to the soundtrack of Practical Magic 2, which featured “Landslide” and Rodrigo’s “The Cure.”
