White House tips Nicki Minaj as next press secretary?

Nicki Minaj has once again shared her support for Donald Trump, and a member of the White House has quipped that she should be considered for the role of press secretary.

The comments come in light of conservative political commentator Katie Zacharia being appointed as the White House Press Secretary earlier this month, and stepping down after just five days following intense scrutiny.

Over the weekend, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared a video of himself on Air Force One talking to Minaj – who has been outspoken in her support for Trump over the past year.

In the clip, Minaj explains why she is an avid supporter of Trump, describing him as a businessman who has worked his way up to the status of billionaire, and saying that it therefore means he “surely knows what to do” when it comes to the country and its economy.

Posting the clip on X/Twitter, Cheung quipped that she would be fit to work alongside him, writing: “Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!”

The rapper also joined Trump at a campaign rally on Sunday afternoon (October 26) in Michigan, where the president gave her a shout-out for attending the event and acknowledged her “beautiful” backside that is “hard to miss”.

After calling on her to speak on-stage, Minaj claimed that Trump has “changed the energy of the country” and “given us a future to look forward to”.

“We really need all these great people to be elected, because this is a major turning point for our country,” the rapper added, also describing herself as his “Number One fan” (via BBC News).

The appearance alongside Trump in Michigan follows the rapper appearing on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle last month to discuss working with the Trump administration and defend her “love” of the president.

“I am honoured to be able to have an opportunity to work with this administration and to work with President Trump,” she said. “He has inspired many people, not just me. And he’s fun.”

“He’s not just smart, and, you know, he’s not just the president,” she continued. “But he’s also someone that I can relate to, someone that, you know, every time I see him, or every time I see him speaking to other people, he’s just himself. He’s very grounded. It’s easy to connect with him. It’s easy to feel like he heard you; he understands you. And I just love him. And I’m not going to ever make excuses for that.”

Before then, Minaj was the surprise guest at a Turning Point USA event, where she spoke with Erika Kirk – the widow of murdered political commentator Charlie Kirk. At that event, held last December, she declared “respect and admiration” for the “handsome, dashing” Trump before criticising California Governor Gavin Newsom.

She subsequently deactivated her Instagram account amid the backlash to her appearance and faced multiple petitions to deport her from the US, having moved to the country from Trinidad when she was five.

She took aim at Newsom again around that same time, telling the potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate that “no one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBT community” than Trump.
