Lioness Season 4 still hasn’t been officially announced, which feels a little cruel after that finale.
Paramount+ hasn’t ordered another chapter, although Nicole Kidman has already asked fans to make some noise for a renewal.
Fair enough, Nicole. I’m already doing my part, and I’ll try not to get too carried away. Season 3 left Joe alive, but she’s hardly walking away unscathed.
The Lioness Season 3 finale revealed Aaliyah Amrohi as the mastermind behind Joe’s kidnapping, tying her to Cruz’s Lioness Season 1 mission and its bloody aftermath.
That changes the whole game. Joe wasn’t just caught in a murky geopolitical trap involving governments, proxies, and men with too much money.
Someone with a deeply personal grudge targeted her. That’s a much nastier problem for Joe, and I’m here for it.
Aaliyah Is No Ordinary Lioness Enemy
Aaliyah is a Season 4 threat since she already knows where the wound is. She is not some random warlord with a compound, private army, and speech about power.
She has history with Cruz, and she has every reason to view the Lioness program as what detonated her life.
Cruz’s undercover mission on Lioness Season 1 ended with Aaliyah’s father and fiancé dead, and the Season 3 finale turns that old wound into the engine for Joe’s current nightmare.
That is rancid in the best dramatic way.
Aaliyah is not only trying to beat the CIA. She wants Joe, Cruz, and everyone connected to that operation to understand what their choices cost her.
That makes her harder to handle than the usual enemy Joe can track, raid, or intimidate into making a mistake.
Joe can handle a battlefield. She understands chains of command, extraction plans, and QRF chaos.
Aaliyah brings a different problem, and Joe cannot fix that with a clean tactical order.
Season 4 could make Aaliyah genuinely dangerous without turning her into some cartoon villain.

I’d keep the grief and the rage, but I’d also keep that elegance she has. Let her scare people through patience and control instead of constant explosions.
Joe’s Family Is Already Breaking
The finale brought Aaliyah back, then sent Joe home to an empty house. Oof, that was brutal; I wasn’t ready for that gut punch!
Neal left with their daughters, and that may hurt Joe more than anything she endured in captivity.
Neal has spent years living with the fallout from Joe’s job without ever getting the full truth. He gets fear, silence, and late-night damage, while the CIA gets her loyalty.
That’s a brutal deal for any husband and father.
Season 4 cannot wave that away with one tearful reunion. Please, no. That family has earned more than a quick kitchen conversation and one sad hug.
Joe may want to hunt Aaliyah first, but Neal walking out leaves another crisis waiting at home. I love how those two problems now collide.
If she chases Aaliyah, she proves Neal’s worst fear, and if she stays home, Aaliyah is still out there with money, motive, and plenty of fury left.
That is a foul little corner for the show to put her in, and I mean that as praise.
Cruz Could Become the Pressure Point Again
If Aaliyah is back, Cruz can’t stay parked on the sidelines.
This whole mess started with Cruz’s Season 1 mission. She got close to Aaliyah, lied to her, helped finish the operation, and carried the consequences with her.
Aaliyah ordered Joe’s abduction, sure, but Cruz still sits at the center of her anger.
So yes, I can’t see Season 4 keeping Laysla De Oliveira out of this mess.
And no, I don’t want Cruz dragged back for a cheap shocker. Bring her back with guilt, anger, and the ugly knowledge that doing her job still wrecked someone.
Lioness should lean into that emotional damage far more. Aaliyah may be coming for Joe, but Cruz is tied to the reason this started.
If Season 4 wants to get vicious, it could force Joe to protect Cruz while Neal and the girls remain outside her reach.
Leaving the Field May Not Save Joe
Season 3 already toyed with Joe leaving field work behind. After everything she’s survived, I get why.
She’s been shot, abducted, tortured, hunted, and emotionally wrecked by her own career. At some point, even Joe McNamara has to admit her body isn’t government property.
The problem is, Aaliyah doesn’t need Joe in the field to hurt her.
Leaving field work might keep Joe away from one kind of danger, but it won’t protect Neal, Kate, Charlie, Cruz, or the team.
Joe could take the desk and still end up trapped. She’d have authority, resources, and nowhere safe to dump all that rage.
For Joe, that sounds miserable, but for us, it’s delicious. What do you think?
Ah, the fourth season could test whether Joe can fight without charging straight into the fire. Knowing her, she’ll last 12 minutes before doing something legally volcanic.
Aaliyah Could Change the Show’s Formula
Lioness has always had the military and spy-thriller side covered, but Aaliyah’s return makes everything more personal.
The global conflict can stay, because Aaliyah has already shown that she can use contractors and militant networks to reach Joe.
She can work through borders, proxies, and dirty networks while the CIA scrambles to contain her.
The real shift is who she’s targeting. Joe can’t treat this like another threat she can file away. Her past has come back with a face, a name, and a very personal grudge.
I’d love to see Season 4 lean into that pressure, while Joe tries to protect the country and keep her own life from falling apart.
I’m all for it on the show, but poor Joe is going to get wrecked. Every mission can drag up old baggage, and Cruz showing up could rip those scars wide open.
Then Neal is waiting at home, reminding Joe what this career keeps costing her.
Joe’s Worst Nightmare May Be Winning
The nastiest version of Season 4 would have Joe stop Aaliyah and still lose something she can’t replace.
If Joe turns this into a personal war, Kaitlyn and Byron may have to rein her in. If Cruz comes back, her history with Aaliyah could become serious leverage.
And if Neal and the girls stay gone, Joe may have to face a brutal truth: surviving doesn’t bring your family back.
Joe can neutralize threats, outwork almost anyone, and keep pushing long after most people would be begging for a hospital bed.
But Aaliyah may have found the one fight Joe can’t control. She can’t force Neal to trust her again, and she can’t repair a marriage through another successful mission.
She also can’t erase what Cruz’s mission did to Aaliyah, no matter how many targets she takes down.
That’s why I think Season 4 could hit Joe harder than anything before it. If Lioness returns, Aaliyah could turn Joe’s entire life into hostile territory.
There would be no clean line between the job and home, and Joe would have nowhere safe to put the fallout.
Joe might survive all of it. I’m not sure she gets through without losing something permanent.
